Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004), Before Midnight (2013)

Day 2 of our Valentines Day countdown is technically a cheat with 3 films in one. Filmed 10 years apart, The Before Series follows the trials and tribulations of a couple in love; not only digging into how they change as individuals but also how their attitudes to life change also.
Starting with their initial encounter on a train ride in Europe and ending on a vacation in Greece, each film is built as a snapshot of the young couples time together. Stuffed to the brim with snappy dialogue, these are films that will make you feel like you’re a stranger sitting at the opposite table, each conversation filling in the blank stretches of time between entries and concluding arguments we were never privy to in the first place.
In all honesty, The Before Series are some of my favourite films of all time. While its pièce de résistance is the series middle entry; Before Sunrise, this is a series that delves into the very definition of what love is and more so, how love changes over time with each challenge it faces. Perfect!
