2016 has been mentioned as one of the worst years in film, I would have to slightly disagree with that statement. Although we have been consistently let down by big-budget blockbusters, indie films have been the talk of the year. Here is my top 10 films of 2016:
- Arrival
- The Revenant
- The Nice Guys
- Anomalisa
- Captain America: Civil War
- Deadpool
- Don’t Breathe
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
- The Witch
- The Light Between OceansHonourable mentions of 2016: Green Room, Zootropolis, Train to Busan and 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Not what you thought? Then check out Morton’s top 10 of 2016 to see if that’s more in line with what you loved!
Definitely, it’s similar to Nice Guys so if you liked that, you will like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang too.

No I haven’t seen that one, do you recommend it?

That’s interesting, I saw the trailer and was immediately interested in it, especially because it’s a Shane Black movie! Loved Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, have you seen it?

They really did and I think from my point of the view the best reason for that was that I didn’t expect the film to be any good at all!

Thank you! The Nice Guys was so good, couldn’t stop laughing throughout. Thought Gosling and Crowe worked so well together!

Great choices! The Nice Guys made it onto my list.

That was absolutely mad! Remember seeing it at the cinema and half the screen burst out laughing…I was mortified haha! I think you should edit yours, it’s an extremely good film!

Fingers crossed it’s a strong finish for the franchise! Were you particularly disappointed by anything this year?

Loved Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, so the third in the trilogy is probably my most anticipated film of 2017!

Ah man, I completely forgot about Blade Runner – the teaser for that was awesome! Alien Covenant looks to be pretty interesting as well! War looks good – really excited to see Woody Harrelson in a serious role again!

Dunkirk of course! Usually enjoy Marvel films. War of the Planet of the Apes and Blade Runner 2049 as well!

Dunkirk is at the top of the list closely followed by Star Wars but after that it’s the usual stuff – Marvel have another strong slate with Spiderman and Thor 3 but in truth, I’m more excited about how the audience will react to the blockbusters – summer was really disappointing this year so hoping for better things! How about you? Anything on the radar at all?

There sure are! What other films are you looking forward to in 2017?

For sure man – big fan of Adam Driver as well so expecting good things! Unfortunately we have a little wait for that – it’s not coming out til mid Feb! There are always a couple that we never get until really late!

Oh yeah, Silence! Can’t go wrong with Scorcese! When is Moonlight due out in the UK? Or have I missed it?!?!

Yeah for sure – I’m hoping for good things from Silence and Manchester by the Sea as well! Fingers crossed it’s a better year than this one!

Haha whenever it was, it was on my top 10 for 2015…that makes it a little clearer lol ah cool, probably a good shout to be honest – you got many viewings booked for the next few weeks then?

Ahhh, can’t remember when I watched it…
Predictions? I always wait til the UK January releases for predictions! That’s when most of the Oscar contenders come out in the UK!

In the US it came out earlier as it had to be screened for Oscars – didn’t get released in the UK until 1st of Jan – so technically we included it 🙂 any predictions for this year’s awards?

I loved it as well…but thought it came out earlier than 2015?

Loved it – think I even rated it high in the top 10 for last year! How about yourself?

The image of the raven/crow pecking the mother’s breast is but one that will haunt my memories…in fact, not sure why that film wasn’t in my Top 10!

Cheers for checking it out dude, really appreciate it! There are two of us so we always compete over who has the better lists lol The Revenant is just a film making masterclass – I know what you mean, it would be hard to repeat watch a lot but it’s just so clever!

They’re both great films! Anomalisa is easily one of the most under the radar films of 2016. The puppeteer work is genius. Don’t breathe is also incredible, it’s so tense it’s unreal! Also agree with your comments on The Witch, it really creeped me out, that’s my kind of horror!

Anomalisa and Don’t Breathe were two films I regretted not seeing this year! Found The Revenant a little boring, but think I need to rewatch it to fully appreciate it. And The Witch was easily the best horror of the year (that I saw!)
