Big Hero 6 Review

Since Disney’s split from Pixar in the animated field, people’s expectations of upcoming Disney animated films were low. No one thought that they could carry on the marvellous work that they had done together including the likes of ‘Toy Story’, ‘Wall-E’ & ‘The Incredibles’. Since then, Disney has released the brilliant ‘Wreck-It-Ralph’ and the box-office sensation ‘Frozen’. Disney’s next release, ‘Big Hero 6’ follows the story and draws inspiration from the Marvel comic of the same name. We follow Hero Hamada, an intelligent 14 year old that creates robots and enters them into ‘Bot fights’ to win money. After losing his parents at a young age, he looks up to his older brother Tadashi Hamada who attends the local university in San Fransokyo (which is a mix of San Francisco & Tokyo if you didn’t guess already). Tadashi shows his younger brother Hero the ‘wonders’ of university life and the incredible robotics lab that he works in. Intriguing Hero to go to the university at the ripe age of 14, Hero decides that this is the place he is destined to be.

Along the way in the storyline and avoiding any plot spoilers, Hero Hamada is introduced to his brother’s invention Baymax, the personal healthcare robot that attends your need and is incredibly funny too. Hero sees more potential in Baymax and decides to turn him into a fighting robot. Disney has followed up on ‘Frozen’ with an incredible animated feature that delivers on all aspects. ‘Big Hero 6’ is a roller-coaster ride of amazing visuals and continuously enjoyable scenes, in which all are with Baymax.

Baymax, the loveable, cuddly and laugh out loud character is probably one of the most adored and likeable Disney animated character since the introduction of Buzz Light-year in ‘Toy Story’ back in 1995. Baymax steals the whole show with his charismatic personality which genuinely had me laughing throughout and that is an impressive feat for me while watching an animated film.

‘Big Hero 6’ is a real treat to watch and is by far one of the most enjoyable animated Disney film I have watched in a very, very long time. 4.5 out of 5 stars for ‘Big Hero 6’.

  2. I have a series issue with going to sleep without some movie or other running in the background, which tends to mean I get through a lot of films – this one will be top of my list! I’ll let you know how I get on…

Thanks for checking out my blog! Glad to hear I have credible British critic in agreement!
